Last week of freedom

Being the last week of the uni holidays I took advantage of the abundance of spare time i had and went on a few food outings!

Tuesday mid morning my mum, siblings and I ventured to Richmond to try Friends of mine cafe. I was excited to try it but unfortunately when we got there they were oddly closed. Instead we drove to Church road and ate at another one of the cafes on my ever growing list which was Pillar of Salt.

In a way I'm glad we ended up at Pillar of Salt because it was just so good! The menu was packed with exciting, different dishes..I was pretty torn with what to order but in the end my mum and sister ordered the californian kale salad, my brother ordered the herb and parmesan crumbed schnitzel and i ordered the  lunch omelette. The omlette was filled with kale, tomato and feta, and the combo was amazing as well as the way the feta melted from the warmth of the omlette. We also shared two small cakes before leaving which were a coconut banana cake and an orange and almond cake, which were both amazing but the coconut banana was definitely my favourite, it was insanely good!

On Tuesday night i went to an adorable Italian restaurant in Camberwell called La Casalinga with my friend Catrina. We both ordered pizza, hers was a prusciutto, buffalo mozzarella and basil pizza and mine was prusciutto, gorgonzola and pear because I'm a sucker for anything gorgonzola! We then went to the Rivoli to see The Man of Steel movie which was awesome, and the fact that Henry Cavill was in it didn't hurt either :P

Following a very interesting thursday night, involving my sister and I salivating and crying over a new cafe we found called Louie, we drove to South Yarra the friday morning absolutely dying to try this cafe only to find that luck was really not going our way as not only was it closed..but it wasn't re-opening!!! We got back into the car shouting our rage away but by this stage we were just too hungry to give up so we decided to try Breakfast Thieves which is located in Collingwood, and which also won an award for being an urbanspoon top restaurant of 2012. We had high hopes for this little cafe and it did not dissappoint! The staff were friendly and attentive, the menu were presented on adorable little clip folders and the atmosphere and decor really did make it one of my new faves.

I ordered the Brioche Pain Perdu which is a "french toast served with spiced wine poached pears, white chocolate marscapone mousse and candied pistachio" and a side of bacon because lets face it, every meal is better with a side of bacon. My sister ordered the breakfast ciabatta roll with bacon, cheddar omelette, wild rocket and tomato relish, which i tasted and was delish! I was a little worried i might not be full from my dish when it was brought out but after having a few bites realised it was deceptively filling and realllllly fricken tasty!
